The Anchor Chain Counter is a new digital instrument that provides an accurate indication of the exact length of chain paid out across the vessel's windlass gypsy irrespective of whether the gypsy is being power driven or freewheeling, up or down. It is a particularly useful device that allows the skipper to be aware of the anchor position at all times - a great aid when operating remotely from the depth-sounder, very precise chain-to-depth ratios are easy - advantageous when secure anchoring has high priority.
The digital display features large, bright figures for ease of viewing in any light situation. The device counts the anchor chain in both directions and even if switched off when anchored, providing the power remains connected, records any movement of the anchor chain for future reference.
The correct count is stored in memory to be available when next switched on. If more chain is let out, without switching the display on, it will still count the chain released or retrieved. The ability to count back is specifically useful to indicate "anchor clear of bottom" when an anchor is being retrieved in a blind situation such as at night or in stormy and crowded conditions.
The Delux Version can easily be set to release the length of chain required automatically.
The Anchor Chain Monitor can be calibrated on installation according to the amount of chain that is represented by one turn of the gypsy so that the instrument displays the exact length of chain that has passed across the gypsy. Windlasses with gypsies up to 360mm (14") diameter can be monitored in this manner.
